BTC Lab Kit Team goes to De La Salle Santiago Zobel – Vermosa Campus for the 57th National Convention and Scientific Sessions of the Biology Teachers Association of the Philippines (BIOTA) in April 2023, introducing what the BTC Lab Kit is and providing a workshop on plant tissue culture.

In the same month, the BTC Lab Kit was exhibited at the 10th DLSU Innovation and Technology Fair and finished as a Finalist in the Design Thinking Competition, highlighting the innovation, creativity, and sustainability of plant tissue culture at the intersection of agriculture and education.

A productive discussion on the science of plant tissue culture and collaboration opportunities were laid out during the meeting of the BTC Lab Kit team with Mr. Arsenio “Toto” Barcelona, President, and Mr. Dominic Galimba, Plant Tissue Culture Specialist, of Harbest Agribusiness Corporation on February 21, 2024.

A Monitoring and Evaluation Meeting with Engr. Mark Anthony Ferrer, Program Manager, and Mr. John Seth Arcilla, Science Research Specialist II, of DOST-TAPI, the funding agency of the BTC Lab Kit project, on February 26, 2024, as part of project management to check on the status of project outputs and ensure that objectives are met.

A culmination of efforts in optimizing plant tissue culture protocol, assembly of the lab kit prototype, and development of modules and supplementary instructional materials, the first sets of BTC Lab Kit were showcased during Module Review Day 1 on February 24, 2024.

On Day 2 of the BTC Lab Kit BTC Lab Kit Module Review on March 2, 2024, educators and researchers discussed the innovative features of the lab kit as a supplementary learning material for senior high school teaching.

Boasting its core concept of self-regulated learning (SRL), the BTC Lab Kit was introduced to teacher-researchers in the National Science and Technology Fair on April 4, 2024, emphasizing the theoretical concepts in biology, chemistry, and physics into practical hands-on skills of plant tissue culture.

In partnership with the De La Salle University Publishing House, the BTC Lab Kit Student’s Module and Teacher’s Guide were officially launched on February 6, 2025. Together with fellow educators and researchers from different institutions, we recalled the journey of how the BTC Lab Kit turned from a passion project into fruition, while looking forward to the positive impact we hope it would bring to senior high school teachers and learners.

Now a tangible product, the BTC Lab Kit team goes back to BIOTA in its 2nd NCR Regional Annual Convention and Scientific Meeting held at De La Salle Araneta University on March 15, 2025 to discuss its progress and how it can be effectively used in the classroom as a learning kit.
